This was a shoot I did with stylist, Audi Turley

We shot in this old house that has a reputation for making some great pictures.

Several shots in and we had the owner of the building and some tough-looking man (who never spoke a word- he just stood there with his arms folded, making grouchy faces) shoeing us out with a request that we leave the building alone because of its great sentimental value. Having strangers wandering around was not showing respect to this family treasure. She also says she charges a fee if anyone does want to photograph there.

So tell your friends.

Luckily there was a house next door with a similar interior.

i suppose i should preface this with my artist statement
i will make it small so it won't look like such a daunting task
for those who don't want to read it, these are illustrations portraying the laws of science (and some other social "laws") as ghosts...

I have found that there are two types of people in this world: the people who have decided they are better off just doing what they’re told, and the people who question everything. Lately, I have found myself surrounded by the latter. As we sit around and complain about things there are a few areas that no one ever questions. If you drew a Venn diagram of it, there would be a middle circle of beliefs that transcends almost every cultural and social variation. We all understand things like time, day and night, and we are aware of the laws of science. It’s hard to argue against something that is taught worldwide in homes and schools. Take two people who don’t seem to agree on anything and, chances are, they both believe in gravitation, or heat conduction, or even planetary motion. These things are easy to trust because they have been proven scientifically. But what are they? We know they exist but have no idea as to their origin. We can’t see them or touch them or hear them; we just notice the effects. Sounds like a ghost to me.

it was my first time visiting the great salt lake and it was a cold visit.

I recently had the opportunity to shoot inside the conference center in Salt Lake City. It is a beautiful place. Unfortunately, it was totally gutted and being set up for christmas. But I had a lot of fun walking around on the catwalks and getting up close and personal with the organ.

recently, my friend christine and i went to take pictures at the devil's playground. it's an amazing place: almost completely covered in desert brush are the foundations of old cement buildings that at one point must have been some sort of chemical plant. the rest of the buildings can be found in pieces all over the ground with more empty bottles of spray paint than i've ever seen in my life. some buildings still stand and it makes you feel like a five year old again to wander around these masses of cement, paint, and plants.

i'm feeling a picnic coming on...

the following picture was taken shortly after i realized how ridiculous it is to bring into the studio two sacks of leaves you raked out of your neighbor's yard and then try and make the lighting look natural... as if i had taken it outside in my neighbor's yard where the leaves were to begin with.

yes, that is the mannequin from the studio. my model had 40 minutes and i couldn't make up my mind about anything until she left.

i hung out with the ol' ball 'n' chain in the burg this weekend. it was a productive weekend. we did homework, played music, went running, ate lots of food, went to a show, rode bikes. i think we were pretty well rounded this week.
we also went to the skate park. since i refuse to be a ledge ho i went and explored while he skated. i found a suh-weet junk yard or something. it was full of old street signs and stop lights. i will post more pictures when i have some extra time.

alyssa and i went to utah lake today. i've never been there before. we made a pitstop at sammy's. i had a grilled cheese with onion and mushroom. it was only $2.00.

this first picture is from sammy's. in the left frame you can see the guy making our sandwiches and in the right frame alyssa is watching him. this may be one you have to click on and make bigger...

this bonanza was parked outside sammy's.

we made a pit stop at this field. the bugs are fearless and all over the place.

this lake is more repulsive than lake washington. i was pretty dissappointed because i really miss living next to some water. i did, however, get to hold a fishing pole for the first time. i think i'd like to try fishing one time.

to sum things up: never swim in utah lake. don't bother. it smells like rotting flesh and old garbage.

india fest was yesterday. it was at the krshna temple in spanish fork. there were some pretty cool performances, i guess. i think i am just used to seattle festivals. we spent most of the time wandering around trying to find things for eric to sketch and for me to take pictures of. neither of us were feeling very creative. i did, however, manage to find a peacock feather that i put in my headband only to find out later that it had llama poop on it.

(disclaimer: eric isn't this "sexy" in real life)

i really like the look of film when you shoot with old film or get a lot of light entering your camera and all that jazz so i tried to kind of recreate that look in these since i wasn't having the best day shooting pictures.

this is ron. i met him on the train. i don't think this picture accurately portrays his personality. he was the goofiest, most happy man. he didn't care in the least that he had no teeth or that he smelled like warm urine or that the neck of his shirt was completely torn off. we talked about world peace and recycling.

i got accepted into the bfa this week. this means for sure i have two more years left of school. on the other hand i get to do a final bfa show as well as an internship which i'm really excited about.

right now the spacebar on my laptop is really squeaky so i'm going to forego the rest of what i was going to say except... i'm very excited for the future.
